BROOKFIELD, CT — The Brookfield Board of Education and superintendent of schools have named Anna Mahon as Brookfield's new assistant superintendent for teaching, learning and personnel. For the past seven years, Mahon has been the Amity Regional High School principal, and has worked for the Amity Regional School District for the past 22 years. She began at ARHS as an English teacher and department chair and served as an assistant principal for five years. Previously she worked as an English teacher at both Darien and Stamford High Schools. In 2016, Mahon was honored as the CAS William Cieslukowski First Year Principal of the Year. Mahon was appointed to become the new assistant superintendent of schools on May 18 at the regular Board of Education meeting. She will be replacing Maureen Ruby who has led the district in teaching, learning and personnel since 2015. "I have always admired the Brookfield Public School system for the strong sense of community that is created and the forward-thinking vision that has always been exemplified. I am thrilled to join Superintendent Barile and the wonderful team of educators and educational leaders to help create our tomorrow for students, families, and the town of Brookfield," Mahon said in a statement. Mahon is a commission member of the New England Association of School and Colleges, has served as the chairperson for the CIAC Indoor Track and Field Committee, is treasurer for the CAS-CIAC Board of Control, and is a member of the National Merit Scholarship Program advisory board. She is also a former Olympian, representing the United States in Athens in 2004. "Dr. Mahon's expertise in secondary level education, direct work with faculty for professional learning opportunities and laser focus on aligning goals with Strategic Plan efforts is impressive," Superintendent John Barile said in a news release. "It is exciting to have someone of Anna's experience and demonstrated ability to connect with students, staff and families joining our leadership team." Mahon will begin on August 1.
