Description

Paddling, cold pints and conservation action! Hear about new efforts to bring back river herring runs in Rhode Island. Join The Nature Conservancy, the Friends of the Saugatucket, and the River Herring Collective in celebrating free-flowing rivers and the migratory fish, people, and wildlife they support. 2:00 pm -- Guided Paddle The Friends of the Saugatucket will lead a free, guided paddle from the Main Street dam in Wakefield to the Whalers brewery. Participants must provide their own kayak or canoe and gear, wear a PFD on the river, and be willing to help shuttle folks between the put-in and take-out. Meet at the Whalers parking lot. Register separately for the paddle by emailing [email protected]. 4:00 pm -- Pizza, Pints and Fish Talk  As the paddlers arrive, join us in the Whalers taproom for casual conversations about recent and upcoming projects to help river herring on the Saugatucket River and other coastal streams in Rhode Island.  Grab a slice of pizza and "Ask the Scientists" everything you wanted to know about Rhode Island's herring runs. Share your ideas and observations about herring runs in your community. Learn about volunteer opportunities to help support healthy rivers in Rhode Island.
