Implicit Bias Training is required to renew massage licenses! Prerequisite for this class: Massage License This training is designed for 2022 license renewals only! If you will be renewing in 2023, do NOT take this class to satisfy your requirement. The classes taught next year and in the future will be longer to meet the 3-hour requirement for license renewals in 2023 onward. Why Implicit Bias Training?A regulation was added to the Public Health Code’s General Rules. The rule defines implicit bias as “an attitude or internalized stereotype that affects an individual’s perception, action, or decision making in an unconscious manner and often contributes to unequal treatment of people based on race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, age, disability, or other characteristic.” This training is in addition to continuing education training. Unlike the Human Trafficking training, this is not a “one time” requirement. Implicit Bias training is required every time you renew your license. Implicit Bias Training is in addition to Continuing Education hours required. Renewing Licenses require one hour of training for every year in the cycle. In other words, a 3-year license needs three hours. However, since the rule is new, those renewing in 2022 only need one hour. Then the 3-year rule will apply beginning in 2023. Training on Implicit Bias is now required of all professions licensed under the Michigan Public Health Code as a condition for both initial and license renewal. Class size is limited!
