OAK LAWN, IL — Yay! The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is coming! The giant hot dog on wheels will be visiting Fairplay Foods locations on the South Side and south suburbs over Memorial Day weekend. The first Wienermobile was created in 1936 by Carl Mayer. The 1952 Wienermobile is currently on exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich. In 1969, the Wienermobile featured Ford Thunderbird tail lights and a Chevy motor home frame. It averaged 187 miles to the gallon, according to the Oscar Mayer website. The 27-foot-long Wienermobile is one of six currently crisscrossing the United States. Kids of all ages are invited to join the hotdoggers for samples, at the following times and Fairplay Foods locations: May 26, noon to 4 p.m. - 3057 W. 159th St., Markham May 27, 9 a.m. to noon - 6620 W. 111th St., Worth May 27, 1 to 4 p.m. - 8631 W. 95th St., Hickory Hills May 28, 9 a.m. to noon - 8700 S.
