ROSEVILLE, MI — Macomb County officials decided not to bring charges against a Roseville Police officer who fatally shot a man after a traffic crash, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office said.
Officials said officer Chad Lee shot 57-year-old Frank Robles to death on Groesbeck Avenue between 12 Mile and Martin roads when Robles charged officers with a 4-inch fish knife after crashing into a semi-truck.
"Sheriff's investigators did not develop any evidence to substantiate any criminal charges against Roseville Police Officer Chad Lee, who discharged his firearm at an armed subject, Frank Robles," officials said.
When witnesses went to check on Robles after he crashed into the semi-truck, they told police he wielded the knife and it appeared he split both his wrists open, officials said.
Officers repeatedly told Robles to drop the knife, but he refused and kept advancing toward the officers, officials said. That's when police said officer Lee shot Robles multiple times. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
"After this review, a consistent opinion was reached that no criminal charges are warranted for Officer Chad Lee," Officials said. "The Macomb County Sheriff's Office investigation is closed at this time."
