CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — The death of a Chicago Heights man last month has been ruled a homicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, officials said. According to police, officers received a 911 call about a battery victim at a home in the 200 block of Plymouth Drive. When they arrived, police said 61-year-old Jerry Coleman was outside the home complaining of neck and back pain. Chicago Heights Police Chief Tom Rogers told Patch paramedics arrived and took Coleman to Franciscan Health Hospital. Five days later, Coleman was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. The Medical Examiner's log reports Coleman died April 28 of "complications of cervical spine injuries." Officials said the injuries were caused by assault. Rogers said Chicago Heights detectives have determined the April 23 incident was domestic-related and have identified a person of interest in Coleman's death.
