Press release from San Mateo County Libraries: May 13, 2022 We know how excited community members have been to celebrate the brand-new Atherton Library, and we feel the same way! On Saturday, June 4, at 12:00 PM, we will be hosting a grand celebration to officially mark the opening of the new library and welcome you for a day of activities, tech demos, storytime readings and more. Date & Time Saturday, June 4 12:00-5:00 PM RSVP, opens a new window San Mateo County Libraries worked closely in partnership with the Town of Atherton, opens a new window to make the new Atherton Library a reality. The celebration will begin with brief remarks from local leaders before a banner run-through and we head inside. Come see familiar faces and meet new library staff who are here to help. We'll have team members onsite all day ready to show you how to use tech, sign you up for a free library card, help you check out materials from our expanded collection and more. Designed to serve our communities with an expanded collection, range of resources and events for all ages, the new Atherton Library is a place for discovery. This light-filled new library is tucked among old-growth trees near the town's brand-new Civic Center. Its spaces include: Children's areaTeen and adult sectionsMakerspace and digital lab Willie Mays, opens a new window roomQuiet reading room The new library also features outdoor decks connected to the building. Visit the deck outside the makerspace if your little ones need to burn off some energy or step outside the quiet room to read in solitude under shade from the sun. Whether you're looking for a peaceful place to study or interested in learning how to use the latest tech, our library is here to serve you with our expert team and array of materials. The Atherton Library is designed to be a flexible space where we look forward to hosting regular storytimes as well as in-person events for teens and adults.
