The Utilities Distribution Technician will perform duties related to the design, installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of distribution systems for potable water, heating water supply, domestic hot water, chilled water, stormwater, wastewater, steam, and condensate. This role will inspect, maintain, and repair exterior utility distribution systems, stormwater treatment systems, sewage lift stations, underground utility tunnels, trenches and pits, and hydrant meter boxes for temporary water service to construction projects. This work requires coordination with town public works staff, engineering consultants, Facilities Asset Management, and project managers. Please note: The Utilities Distribution Technician may need to respond to emergency situations and be on-call outside normal work hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High school graduation.
2. Three years of related work experience and/or education in utility distribution systems, or similar fields such as plumbing, mechanical systems, pipefitting, drainage systems, and/or welding.
3. Certifications in – or attainment of — such licenses DigSafe procedures, and workzone traffic control; within one year of initial employment.
4. Knowledge of applicable codes and ordinances.
5. Valid motor vehicle operator’s license and ability to obtain a DOT medical card.
6. Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities including heavy lifting and work with exposure to inclement weather for prolonged periods of time.
7. Ability to work in confined spaces.
8. Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary.
