Port Washington School District's Budget, BOE Election Results Are In

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Residents of the Port Washington Union Free School District voted Tuesday to approve the district's proposed 2022-23 budget, an official confirmed to Patch. The budget passed by a wide margin, with 2,150 residents voting "yes" and 762 voting "no." The proposed 2022-23 budget is $7.5 million larger than the current spending plan, bringing the total to $174,834,928. That's an increase of 4.52 percent. The property tax levy is increasing by 2.58 percent to cover the cost — which is below the tax cap limit. On Tuesday, voters also approved a proposition that would establish a capital reserve fund for a facilities improvement program. This reserve fund will serve as a savings account, at no cost to taxpayers, according to district officials. In total, 2150 people voted "yes" to Proposition 2, while 573 voted "no." In addition to the budget, residents also cast votes for Board of Education trustees. Board of Education President Emily Beys and Trustee Deborah Brooks were re-elected, earning 1,970 votes, and 1,758 votes, respectively.
