Description
PELHAM, NY — Pelham school district residents approved a 2022-23 school budget on Tuesday but rejected a proposition for a capital reserve.
The $84,240,000 proposed budget, with an estimated tax levy increase of 1.95 percent, below the state's tax cap, was approved by a two-to-one margin.
District officials wished to create a Capital Reserve for the purpose of improvements, repairs, reconstruction, and renovation of buildings, facilities, property, and athletic fields. If approved, the Board of Education would have had discretion to fund the reserve over a 10-year period with the cumulative amount not exceeding $10 million. It was defeated by a vote of 1387 against to 893 in favor.
Six people ran for three seats on the Board of Education.
