MOUNT VERNON, NY — The polls have closed and the votes have been tallied. The unofficial results are in. Here's what the voters decided in the 2022 Mount Vernon school budget election. The Mount Vernon School District 2021-22 budget was handily rejected by voters. The proposed budget was $266,743,231 with a 2.75 percent increase over the 2021 -2022 spending package. School officials said the tax levy would have increased by 0.5 percent. There were four board of education seats for five-year terms, including one unexpired portion of a term that will run through June 30, 2023. The winning candidates are: Lorna KirwanMarc LenciAdriane Saunders (incumbent)Melissa Munoz Patterson (one-year) The Mount Vernon Library proposed budget for 2022-23 was also rejected by voters by a wide margin. The proposed library budget was $5,044,157, an increase of 5.25 percent, or $17.98 per household.
