MERRICK, NY — A Long Beach woman was arrested Monday morning after she left her infant son alone in a hot car, Nassau County police said.
According to police, a person found a 5-month-old boy inside of a car in front of HomeGoods, located at 1644 Merrick Road, at 10:14 a.m.. The windows of the car were all closed, and police say the child was crying, coughing and red in the face.
The person got the child out of the car, and waited a few minutes for a parent to arrive. When no one did, the person called 911.
When police arrived, they called for an ambulance to check on the child. The child's mother, Caroline Salorilo, 34, of Long Beach, later arrived, and was placed under arrest. A family member came to take custody of the child.
Salorilo is charged with endangering the welfare of a child. She is scheduled to be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.
