HUNTINGTON, NY — Residents within the boundaries of the Huntington School District on Tuesday voted to pass the 2022-23 school budget by a margin of 834 votes to 150. The district's budget is $142,968,343, up 2.62 percent from last year's. The tax levy is $112,718,438, up 0 percent. School board incumbents William Dwyer and Michele Kustera ran unopposed with Dwyer picking up 838 votes and Kustera getting 823. Superintendent James W. Polansky offered his gratitude to residents for their support of the Huntington School District's 2022-23 budget and capital propositions. "Your approval will help us to further our ongoing commitment toward addressing the needs of students across the grade levels in a fiscally responsible manner and in the wake of a challenging two-year period," Polansky wrote in a statement posted to Facebook. "My appreciation extends to each of you who expressed interest, asked questions and/or provided input during the budget development process. Rest assured that we will remain steadfast in our focus on providing opportunities and supports for our students and families, including enhancing instructional and learning experiences across the district, and preserving school environments that contribute to the health and well-being of each member of the Huntington school community. At the same time, we will not lose sight of the taxpayer burden or current economic conditions ... Thank you for your confidence in the Huntington School District and for continuing to embrace our young people and their futures."
