Description
Human Trafficking is a 150 Billion Dollar industry that preys on our children and families through phone apps and in person. SAFECHR is an Accredited NGO in SPECIAL Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations since 2021. The United Nations has designated July 30 as World Day Against Human Trafficking. Human trafficking is prevalent in the state of Indiana. This year, the Safe Coalition for Human Rights (SAFECHR), a Northwest Indiana based organization, is hosting a networking event to bring more awareness about Human Trafficking to the region. We are inviting all community leaders, elected officials, community activists, public safety representatives and lay citizens interested in combating human trafficking to an evening of awareness and coalition building. Last year, we had over 150 attendees in our inauguaral event. This year, we can handle maximum capacity of 300 attendees. SAFECHR is a Guidestar platinum awarded secular nonprofit volunteer based, clinician led and survivor empowered grassroots organization that was formed in 2013 and registered in March 2014 after a group of survivors’ felt their voices were unheard during a panel presentation in 2013. The birth was due to the lack of support from area nonprofits to be our fiscal sponsor for SAFE 2014 conference, leading us to form our own nonprofit to support the costs of the conference. In October 2014, we kept our promise to the survivors and thought we were done. However, the response was overwhelming and the recommendations for jobs, training, and a standards for rehabilitation and treatment for survivors was huge. So, SAFECHR grew into the 50 volunteer, multi-professional volunteer NGO it is today.
