Description

Grab your boats (or borrow ours) and let's clean what we can from the Ohio River this year! Join Paddle Perry and the Perry County Recycling District for the 2022 Ohio River Sweep on June 11, 2022. Participants will have the option to paddle the Ohio River and pick up single use plastics with Paddle Perry along the way to the Tell City boat ramp, or pick up trash on land with the Perry County Recycling District at the Cannelton and Tell City boat ramps. Pick up your shirt for participating; a reach and grab stick provided by Paddle Perry; bags, gloves and water provided by the Perry County Recycling District at the Cannelton boat ramp at 8 a.m. CST to join in this event. Paddlers will be launching from the Cannelton boat ramp around 8:30 a.m. CST after a short safety talk and are anticipated to be at the Tell City boat ramp by 11:00 a.m. Land Sweepers will begin at the Cannelton boat ramp around 8 a.m. and then move to the Tell City boat ramp around 10:00 a.m. to meet with the paddlers and total up their collections as a whole. If you can't make it to the 8 a.m. meeting time in Cannelton feel free to meet up with them at the Tell City boat ramp around 10:00 a.m. Once in Tell City all participants will be provided food (either pizza or sandwiches) and water donated by the Perry County Recycling District. Don't miss this great opportunity to give back to our community this year during the Ohio River Sweep. Contact Kris Wheeler with the Perry County Recycling District to learn more and sign up individually or as group! (812) 547-9787 [email protected] If you would like to paddle and pick up, but need to borrow a kayak please contact Kelly Hess at (812) 608-0626 or [email protected] You can also team up with your friends and borrow a canoe to collect! Make it fun and see who collects the most single use plastics! You will need to sign a waiver before launching your paddle craft into the river. There will also be a waiver to sign if you're participating from land.
