Description

Join fellow BIPOC LGBTQIA+ people for an evening with the birds! Whether you're an avid bird watcher or someone looking to take a relaxing stroll with good people, this event is for you! West Ridge Nature Park is partially encircled by Rosehill Cemetery and was created in 2015. The natural area is one of 90+ such spaces in Chicago. It is tended by community volunteers and park district staff and contractors. Join hosts Daniela Herrera, Jill Manrique and Forrest Cortes to explore the areas around the pond and a mix of woodland and prairie areas that are full of birds this time of year as they migrate north for the warmer months. After, join us for dinner across the street at VPT Grill. The trail has minimal inclines, multiple benches for rest points, and is paved/boardwalk with some optional mulch side trails. There is a portable toilet on site. The entrance to the park is on the east side of Western near Ardmore Avenue. There are public transit options and free parking spots all along Western Ave. Need a ride or willing to offer one to another attendee? Join the Out In Nature WhatsApp group to coordinate a carpool! Pack a water bottle and insect repellant. We will have loaner binoculars on hand for those who do not own a pair (and we'll teach you to use them!). We advise wearing comfortable, closed-toed shoes and weather appropriate layers (short sleeves under long sleeves). Please note that this event is for people who identify as BIPOC and LGBTQIA+.
