SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — There's never a dull moment for Sarasota County deputies. Along with keeping their community safe, sometimes they are forced to unleash their inner "Crocodile Dundee." The sheriff's office posted to Facebook on Tuesday that deputies recently encountered a gator trio on Knights Trail Road in Nokomis. Some of the comments underneath the photo did not disappoint. "Nothing to see here just Florida police officers walking their drug-sniffing alligators," one poster said. "Dang, there goes my purse and shoes!" another person wrote. Others said the gator encounter shouldn't really come as a surprise since their habitat is getting smaller and smaller due to development. "I don't know what people expect when they keep building things that completely take over their natural habitat," someone commented. Deputies said they called a trapper, who safely relocated the three gators. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, people with concerns about an alligator should call FWC's toll-free Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-392-4286. When someone concerned about an alligator calls the Nuisance Alligator Hotline, FWC will dispatch a contracted nuisance alligator trapper to resolve the situation.
