MCLEAN, VA — Two people died and another was injured in a crash on the Capital Beltway Tuesday night, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash happened around 10:15 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 495 north of the Chain Bridge Road exit. According to state police, A Mazda driving south in the northbound lanes of I-495 struck a Buick Encore head on. The crash impact caused the Buick to catch fire.
Both drivers died at the scene, according to state police. The drivers have not been publicly identified.
A passenger in the Buick was taken to the hospital for life-threatening injuries and burns from the crash.
The crash remains under investigation. State Police say both drivers and the passenger were not wearing seat belts.
