Description

Press release from House Democrats: May 17, 2022 CT State Representative Lucy Dathan was unanimously endorsed Wednesday night by Democratic Party delegates from Norwalk and New Canaan, in a convention hosted by the Norwalk Democratic Town Committee. Dathan is running for her third term representing parts of Norwalk and New Canaan in the Connecticut House of Representatives, where she serves as Vice Chair of Appropriations, as well as on the Insurance and Real Estate Committee, the Human Services Committee, and the Care Management Subcommittee for the Medical Assistance Program Oversight Council (MAPOC). Mary Ellen Flaherty-Ludwig enthusiastically nominated Dathan, with praise for her "really powerful" combination of "compassion and financial know-how." In her second of the nomination, Tina Duryea shared a compelling story about calling Dathan and getting critical help for her mother "within 24 hours." Ms. Duryea, in providing the example, said, "I think that's the extraordinary public servant Lucy is. She does it without looking for any sort of accolades. She does it just because it is her nature, and she comes to the rescue again and again." Representative Dathan "wholeheartedly" accepted the nomination and talked about how delighted she was to begin campaigning again. "I know how important it is because when you are campaigning you're really talking to your future constituents, and I want to understand what's important to them," said Dathan, while discussing how she's knocked on over 5000 doors in previous cycles and is looking forward to the voter engagement again over the next six months. Rep. Dathan closed the convention with gratitude and joy for serving her district: "I want to thank you again and say what an honor it is to represent you in Hartford. I love being there. I love my job. I love sitting on Appropriations. I love going through the budget on a line by line basis, and I love working to ensure that we focus on the safety net in our state. My other passion is insurance and making sure we have better and more affordable health care for the folks here in our state. I'm looking forward to representing you in the next session."
