Fire Department To Conduct Water Flow Tests On Fire Hydrants

GENEVA, IL — Starting May 23, Geneva Fire Department crews will be conducting water flow tests on fire hydrants throughout the city, officials announced. By testing fire hydrants, crews learn about the water supply available for firefighting and also determine where upgrades may be needed, according to a news release. The tests will run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays through June 3, weather permitting. During this time, residents may find rust in their water during or immediately after testing. Officials said the water is safe to drink, but people are encouraged to let their faucets run for a few minutes if they see discoloration. During testing times, crews are asking community members to limit their water use, if possible, and avoid running the washing machine to avoid staining clothes. The project is being completed in conjunction with the Public Works Department Water Division.
