ELMHURST, IL – Officials continue to be confident with the construction of the new Lincoln Elementary School.
"It will definitely be ready to go for the first day of school," Todd Schmidt, Elmhurst School District 205's director of facilities, said Tuesday.
He was speaking to the school board's finance committee.
With the project on schedule, Schmidt said, furniture is expected to be moved into the new building in July.
The work started last summer, with the demolition of the old building.
Many other projects are going over budget because of expanded scope and supply chain issues. But that is not the case with Lincoln.
In 2018, residents voted to allow the school district to go $168 million into debt for a number of projects. At the time, a new Lincoln building was estimated to cost $32.5 million.
Based on the latest numbers, the project is set to cost about $1 million less than expected.
The district plans a similar project with Field Elementary. It is slated to start this summer.
