Description

DARIEN, IL – Darien has received a resident's complaint about speeders on Williams Street, near 77th Street, officials said Monday. In response, the city plans to install equipment to track the speeds of drivers to see if a problem exists. The equipment is connected to a sign or light pole, which officials said was relatively inconspicuous. "It's a really great tool," Dan Gombac, the city's municipal services director, said at a City Council meeting. Deputy Police Chief Jason Norton said, "Once we get that data, what we'll do is get our officers out there and monitor the general area to see if there really are more problems than what we perceive." Now, the intersection of Williams and 77th is a two-way stop, with the signs on 77th. One of the outcomes of the analysis may be a four-way stop, Gombac said.
