EDINA, MN —Edina Public Schools announced Monday that Carrie Rutz has been hired as the district's next transportation supervisor. She is expected to begin the new position on June 13.
Rutz comes from Minneapolis Public Schools, where she has 31 years of experience in many areas of transportation, including: management, strategic planning, bus scheduling and the training of bus drivers.
"I am honored and excited to join the family at Edina Public Schools," Rutz said. "Transportation operations is my chosen profession and I look forward to learning the existing system in Edina and getting to know everyone."
Since 2015, Rutz has been the manager for MPS special education transportation, where her responsibilities include: management, training, scheduling of special education bus aides, training new special education drivers, daily problem resolution and customer care.
Rutz also works with MPS staff to establish best practices in field transportation, including long-term strategic planning, and she has developed special education training materials and curricula.
Prior to becoming a manager, Rutz worked in transportation scheduling for seven years, was an MPS assignment dispatcher for 10 years and was an MPS bus driver for seven years.
Rutz also has worked on transportation planning, logistics and staffing for a number of large special events, including: the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, NHL All-Star Games, the 1999 Pan-American Games in Winnipeg, Canada and the Daytona 500.
