Press release from San Diego County Sheriff's Department: May 16, 2022 On Monday morning, at approximately 11:15 am, Carlsbad Police Officers were involved in a pursuit of a stolen vehicle which led them into the City of Encinitas. Sheriff's deputies took over the pursuit which continued southbound on Coast HWY 101, with speeds at or slightly above the speed limit. The driver, later identified as Brandon Scroggins 06/20/1979, also had an active felony warrant for his arrest. Several spike strips were deployed to try to disable the vehicle, but the attempts were unsuccessful. The pursuit was eventually terminated in the City of Escondido when Scroggins abandoned the car and ran. Escondido Police Officers and Sheriff's deputies quickly caught up with Scroggins and took him into custody. As the vehicle came to rest, it collided with a fence and the fence sustained minor damage. Scroggins was booked into the Vista Detention facility on charges of vehicle theft, felony evading, possession of drug paraphernalia and the felony warrant.
