Press release from the City of Dunwoody: 05/18/2022 9:36 a.m. Dunwoody, GA – May 18, 2022 – Registration is now open for the Corners Academy Summer Camp, a free program that's designed to support Dunwoody students and prevent learning loss. On May 9, the Dunwoody City Council voted unanimously to award Corners Outreach a grant of up to $200,000 from Dunwoody's allocation of American Rescue Plan (ARP) funding for the program. "One of the approved uses of ARP funds is to provide services to disproportionately impacted communities," said Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch. "The pandemic negatively impacted children, and we are pleased to be able to offer this resource." The funds will pay for staff, equipment, and transportation for the camp for up to 250 students from Dunwoody schools. Camp starts on May 31 and will include daily tutoring in math and reading, social and emotional learning, outdoor activities, and breakfast and lunch. "Corners Outreach is honored to partner with the City of Dunwoody this summer to help our families succeed," said Scott Mawdesley, Corners Academy Vice President. "Our Academy summer camp will be full of learning and fun for children who need to catch up or keep up with their academics over the summer." Corners Academy is offering an eight-week program for grades K-5 at 6890 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Suite A. In addition, Corners will offer a five-week program for grades 6-12 at Peachtree Middle School. "Corners has a proven track record of improving student outcomes," Mayor Deutsch added.
