BABESNetwork-YWCA is a peer-based program, a sisterhood of women facing HIVtogether. BABES reduces isolation, promotes self-empowerment, enhances qualityof life and serves the needs of women facing HIV and their families throughpeer support, advocacy, education and outreach. Operatingon the concept that HIV positive women are uniquely qualified to understand andsupport one another, BABES Peer Advocateprovides non-medial case management, psychosocial support, peermentorship and education to other HIV positive women. Peer Advocates mayalso perform community outreach and prevention as well as education at schools,treatment centers, shelters, justice centers, churches, businesses, and othergroups. This position has a social justice component that requires critical thinking through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. Knowing the core principals of antiracism and grounding those principles in everyday work are required job skills and core values.
