Description

I am a graduate from AIMM and have been playing guitar for 23 years and a professional instructor for over a decade. This is my full-time job. I hold myself to a certain standard of quality - making sure I provide clear and detailed lessons for my students, just as my teachers did before me, ensuring a high level of competency on the instrument. Here are some samples of my guitar playing - instagram.com/thedavidgarrett Some testimonials from past and current students include : "David is an excellent guitar teacher. During our lessons, he would take the time to listen and understand my goals as a guitarist and provide useful, challenging and relevant songs, exercises and tools to help me reach my goals. He is a patient and kind teacher, always providing encouragement with the right amount of accountability. David acknowledges that there are no shortcuts or substitutes for the needed work to improve as a player but he does a great job smoothing the path and seems to genuinely enjoy walking it with you." - Russell J “Before I started classes with David I didn’t see myself as someone who had potential or much more room to grow. David really changed my perspective and his teaching has helped me get to a level of playing that I never thought I would reach. David Is by far the best teacher I’ve ever come across and if you want to see drastic improvement in your ability I can’t recommend anyone else!” - Martin R “My years having lessons with David was a truly life-changing experience for my guitar playing. I was not only taught how to better articulate myself with my instrument, but was educated on how to comfortably and properly play with other people. He is a fantastic explainer, incredible player, and an even better mentor, one who truly put me on my own path to success.” - Giovanni J “David is a great guitar teacher. He teaches you different ways to practice so that you make progress faster and easier. He also challenges you to push yourself on songs. He has also taught me how chords are created from notes, and how the notes are arranged to make the chords. I’ve made great progress and he is really nice.” - Bri B If you want to excel at anything, including playing music, it takes practice. Strumming through your favorite song, cranking out a rockin’ riff, playing a melodic jazz standard, or improvising a convincing blues, rock, or jazz solo on the spot, it all takes efficient practice in the right direction. Lessons are $60 an hr. Once a week, same day and time. Paid a month at a time. Some things that we will be working on in our lessons : How to build a practice schedule Scales : How to build them and use them in music Chords : how they work together to build progressions that make songs Learning songs by ear How to play solid rhythm guitar How to use and learn arpeggios all over the neck Technical exercises to develop physical proficiencies with the instrument Picking - alternate, economy, sweep picking, hybrid and legato Students will record themselves each week, demonstrating their progress on their weekly assignments. These videos are reviewed by me each week before our scheduled lesson, giving us more time working together to help move you forward with your playing.
