Description
Come join our Volunteer Team! This alternate method of Volunteer Training will get you out and working with the AAF dogs on your 1st day. Hey, we heard you! AND we've got your back! In response to COVID-19, we're providing more options than ever for volunteers who want to work with our shelter dogs on-site. Here is how the Direct Admit Volunteer Training works: - You schedule a date and time through Eventbrite that works for you... - You come to AAF on the date and time you chose for your first training session. During your first session you'll be shadowing an experienced volunteer and, if you're feeling ready, walking some dogs and visiting dogs in our play yards. At the same time, you'll get to see one of most popular and innovated volunteer programs, ICARE, in action (note: each ICARE group gathers once a week to work with, exercise, socialize, etc. with the dogs. These activities occur primarily outside. See the video below for details). If all goes well and you like what you seen, then... - You come back the following week (same time of day) and we will continue your volunteer training. We will be asking you to make a commitment at that point to come to at least 8/10 sessions at the same time/day in the following weeks. By making this 8/10 session commitment we will be able to ensure that you get the additional volunteer training you need. - In response to COVID-19, as part of the Direct Admit Volunteer Training you will spend limited amount of time indoors (less than 15 minutes at a time) and you'll get lots of 1-on-1 instruction versus meeting in our larger volunteer training classes. When inside the building, masks are required. When outside, we use social distancing and masks when less than 6' apart from each other. -note: If you can't make a commitment of coming for the 8/10 sessions associated with the Direct Admit program, please consider our more "traditional" approach to volunteer training (see http://www.aafpets.org/volunteer) for details. Either way you choose, we hope you'll enjoy your volunteer experience at AAF! note: Age eligibility: Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to work with AAF dogs.
