A widow, she makes a living by creating and selling these beautiful handmade baskets. Her work will be featured in the silent auction at the KDEF Spring Fling this year, along with other handmade items that KDEF founder Sarah Hadden brought home from her recent trip. Check out the video of the May ribbon-cutting ceremony at the KDEF Centre! The Kenya Drylands Education Fund (KDEF) works to expand access to education for students in one of the most remote and rural parts of the world. By engaging deeply with communities in Northern Kenya —by listening and learning—we have developed a holistic approach that helps families to overcome the cultural and economic barriers that have traditionally led to school enrollment rates as low as 30 percent. We focus on education as the single-most powerful level for transformation and community uplift—for all children, but primarily for girls.
