Mark the longest day and shortest night of the year with a contemplative walk on the George Washington Carver Nature Trail
Awareness of natural cycles helps ground is world beyond ourselves, and gathering with friends and neighbors builds connection and community.
Last December Ward 8 Woods inaugurated a tradition with our first annual Winter Solstice Hike and Vigil. On June 21, which is the longest day and shortest night of the year, we begin another new tradition: Summer Solstice Hike and Cookout.
Join Ward 8 Woods staff, supporters and partners for a slow, contemplative walk on the George Washington Carver Nature Trail, which runs through the Suitland Parkway Woods behind the Anacostia Community Museum.
Local grill masters will cooking up half smokes, burgers, veggie burgers and grilled veggies for a hearty summer dinner in the picnic area after the hike.
