Ducklings Plucked From Drain In Marlborough Along Route 85

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A team effort on Monday in Marlborough led to the safe rescue of a gaggle of ducklings along a busy downtown road. Alyssa Giaquinto, owner of the Giaquinto Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, was called to Bolton Street (Route 85) near Route 20 on Monday morning after a mother duck was seen running in and out of traffic. A Marlborough animal control officer reported hearing the peeps of ducklings coming from a sewer along the west side of the street. According to Giaquinto, Marlborough Department of Public Works employees came to the scene and helped remove the sewer grate. Meanwhile, Marlborough police redirected traffic to keep the mother duck and the rescuers safe. Giaquinto then used a net to scoop the ducklings out of the sewer, and later deposited them into a nearby pond. "I am so thankful to our ACO, MPD, and DPW for all of their help rescuing these poor little ducklings. Amazing teamwork all around!" Giaquinto said in a Facebook post Monday.
