JERSEY CITY, NJ — A massive sinkhole caused traffic detours on the west side of Jersey City Monday and Tuesday, and reopened later on Tuesday only for local traffic. "Crews are continuing repairs on the sewer collapse in front of 316 Sip Avenue today," Tweeted the city of Jersey City on Tuesday afternoon. "There have been no service interruptions (water, etc.) At this time, Sip Avenue is only open to local traffic from Route 440 to West Side Avenue. Drivers should plan to use alternate routes." Sip runs from that area through the Journal Square neighborhood. The Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority was working on repairs. The crater was the second one created on that street in the last few weeks. Another sink hole formed on April 20 on Sip near Hawthorne Avenue.
