Animal Rights Supporters Try to Save Dogs at Posey County Plant

By John Gibson, WNIN May 17, 2022 Dozens of animal rights supporters gathered in Posey County to call on a biopharmaceutical company to stop testing on dogs. The Humane Society of the United States says a seven-month undercover investigation found the Inotive facility on Middle Mount Vernon Road tests and subsequently euthanizes beagles. Samantha Morton is the society's director in Indiana: "We're asking everyone here today to wear blue for the beagles and show their support to release those dogs." Vet tech Kat Herron was among the protesters: "The fact that lab testing on animals is legal is just crazy to me, anyways. And I just want to offer all the support I can and do everything that I can to make sure that these dogs get a better future than the life that they're living now and it's just really important to me." The supporters gathered at the Posey County Humane Society before attempting to meet with officials at the Inotive facility. Morton said the group tried to leave 80 dog collars to represent the animals that are reportedly undergoing tests but were told by someone at the company it would be littering and they were asked to leave. Sheriff's deputies and vehicles marked "security" were posted at the facility. A perimeter fence held banners that read "research saves lives."
