HAMDEN, CT — A 15-year-old Meriden resident has been charged in connection with a shooting that seriously injured a person in Hamden last May, according to police.
Police responded to the area of Oberlin Road around 6 p.m. on May 26, 2021 on the report of shots fired. Responding officers found a crime scene and ballistic evidence in the roadway, according to Detective Sean J. Dolan.
Dolan said police later determined that a 22-year-old gunshot victim was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. The victim was treated for serious injuries as a result of the shooting on Oberlin Road, according to Dolan.
Detective Andrew Lipford of the Major Crimes Unit conducted an extensive investigation that determined that the occupant of a vehicle travelling on Oberlin Road shot at the victim, who was in a parked vehicle on Oberlin Road. The shooting appeared targeted, according to Dolan.
The 15-year-old Meriden resident was arrested Tuesday on a warrant. He was charged with first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit. He is being held at juvenile detention and is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court for Juvenile Matters on May 31.
Dolan said the juvenile was previously arrested in connection with another shooting in Hamden that happened May 27, 2021. He was also arrested on June 3, 2021, in connection with a loaded handgun that had an obliterated serial number, according to Dolan. The handgun was forensically analyzed and later linked to the shooting on Oberlin Road, Dolan said.
