LA GRANGE, IL – A La Grange Park woman who was found with empty liquor bottles in her car ended up attacking a La Grange police officer, according to a report. Carrie Schoenberg, 47, of the 500 block of La Grange Road, was charged with aggravated battery of a police officer. Through a public records request, Patch obtained the police report, though a lot of it was blacked out. Schoenberg was taken into custody the afternoon of Nov 1. But she was not charged until last month. According to the police report, officers received a call about a driver who almost hit two cars. They found a car matching the description on Hillgrove Avenue, near Brainard Avenue. Officers said the driver, identified as Schoenberg, smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking. She also said she was not fine to drive, according to the report. Officers found five small, empty bottles of liquor on Schoenberg and in her car, police said. Because much of the report is blacked out, it is unclear what happened just before she was said to have attacked an officer. According to the report, Schoenberg got on top of the officer and clawed his face. The officer said he had thrown her off of him and held her to a bench. The officer was treated in the emergency room for his injuries, police said. In an interview with police a day later, Schoenberg said she had gone to Jewel to buy three small shot bottles the day before and then went home to get ready for a haircut at Salon Hype, 917 W. Hillgrove in La Grange, police said. She told officers she did not remember touching the officer, but may have reached out to defend herself, according to the report. Schoenberg was released the next day. Police scheduled an interview with Schoenberg for Nov. 12 at Panera Bread, but she backed out shortly beforehand, according to the report. The report indicated the Cook County State's Attorney's Office was considering turning the entire investigation to an outside agency. The report did not say whether that actually happened. It was unclear why Schoenberg wasn't charged with aggravated battery until last month.
