JOLIET, IL — After spending eight-and-a-half months in the Will County Jail, a 58-year-old Joliet man who stole the Wilmington Fire Department's ambulance and crashed it at the Interstate 55 exit near Shorewood, is now on the road to sobriety, court records show. Henry McCall, who lived in the 1600 block of Theodore Street, pleaded guilty in late March to the crime of possessing a stolen motor vehicle. His other charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, obstructing a peace officer and driving on a suspended license, were dropped under the plea. In McCall's case, he signed a contract to enter Will County's Drug Court, and he will reside in the 4400 block of Timber Ridge Court in Joliet, court records show. McCall requested admission into drug court to treat his addiction, court records show. If McCall successfully completes Will County Drug Court, the Will County State's Attorney's Office and the judge will convict him of possessing a stolen motor vehicle offense and McCall will be sentenced to 12 months of conditional discharge. Drug court is not for people who have been convicted during the past 10 years of: first-degree murder, second-degree murder, armed robbery, criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual assault, arson, aggravated arson, kidnapping, aggravated kidnapping, stalking, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm or any crime involving a gun. "I understand that I am eligible for Drug Court only if I demonstrate a willingness to participate in a treatment program," the document signed by McCall states. Over the past several weeks, McCall has participated in at least a half dozen drug tests for the court and his drug screens have always come back negative, court files show. On July 1, 2021, Joliet Patch reported that McCall stole the Wilmington Fire Department ambulance from the parking bay at the AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center around 12:45 a.m. Officers tried to stop McCall, but he refused to pull over and a chase occurred. McCall continued west for a couple of miles, and he collided with a westbound vehicle on West Jefferson Street, losing control of the ambulance near Interstate 55 and Shorewood. McCall crashed the ambulance near West Jefferson Street and the Northeast Frontage Road. He tried running from the ambulance, but Joliet police captured him and took him into custody.
