JOLIET, IL — A 16-year-old boy is being charged as an adult with attempted murder charges in connection Sunday night's non-fatal shooting of a 17-year-0ld boy at the Meadow View Elementary School property. The 16-year-old is now in custody at the River Valley Justice Center on attempted murder, aggravated battery with a gun, aggravated discharge of a gun and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Bail was set at $1 million. Joliet police did not release the defendant's name in Tuesday's news release. "Thank you to the Plainfield Police Department and Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 for their assistance in this investigation," Joliet police announced. On Monday, Joliet police detectives secured a search warrant for the residence of the 16-year-old. Detectives recovered the 9 mm handgun used in Sunday's shooting from the 16-year-old boy's house, police said. At 7:36 p.m. Sunday, Joliet police were called to the area of Meadow View Elementary School for a shooting. Officers located a 17-year-old boy with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was taken to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department's ambulance. With help from the Plainfield Police Department, the shooting suspect was placed into custody by detectives at Plainfield Central High School on Monday morning and brought to the Joliet police station for questioning, according to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English.
