HIGHLAND PARK, IL – May 15, 2022 – Throughout the month of May, Family Focus is the featured organization on the Ruth Fell Wander Community Art Wall at First Bank of Highland Park. The exhibit highlights their vision to invest in strengthening families and their children throughout Chicago and Northeastern Illinois. Bernice Weissbourd, a leading scholar in the field of child development, started Family Focus in 1976 with colleagues and volunteer staff. Word quickly spread and more than 80 other agencies and organizations from across the country sent representatives to witness the family support movement in action. With the widespread popularity growing, Family Focus Woodlawn opened in 1977, followed shortly by Family Focus Lincoln Park in 1978. Over the years as needs grew, more centers were founded in areas such as Aurora, DuPage, Highland Park, Woodlawn, and the neighborhoods of Englewood, Lincoln Park, North Lawndale, and Cicero. Today, there are 11 Family Focus direct service centers throughout Chicago and Northeastern Illinois providing holistic family support services to 19,000 individuals, including parents and children enrolled in center programming and individuals through outreach, home visits, crisis services, and educational programs. “Since 1976, Family Focus has worked to strengthen communities throughout Chicagoland. As we continue working to address the unmet needs of our most under-resourced communities in Lake County, we are grateful for our partners like First Bank of Highland Park. When our neighbors succeed, our community succeeds!” said Dara Munson, Family Focus President & CEO. The Family Focus exhibit is located in the bank lobby and will be open to the public during regular business hours throughout the month of May.
