PHILADELPHIA — A former Philadelphia Police detective is standing for trial on charges of rape, felony institutional sexual assault, official oppression, and more.
Philip Nordo, 55, is now in the trial phase of his legal saga that began back in 2019.
Nordo's charges include felony rape, felony institutional sexual assault, stalking, theft by deception, and more.
Trial proceedings began Monday in Philadelphia.
Authorities said he used his role as a police officer to intimidate and groom male suspects and witnesses into sexual encounters. These incidents began in 2005, according to the indictment.
He is also accused of fraudulently diverting up to $20,000 in funds from the Mayor's Office's Crime Reward Program to individuals and victims of his choosing, authorities said.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Nordo has denied any wrongdoing and rejected an offer to plead guilty to four charges.
Nordo is free on $300,000 unsecured bail.
