Job Summary Performs custodial maintenance duties, including dusting, mopping, finishing, buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, and cleaning and restocking restrooms at our Canopy Adult Program (264 Main Street, Sugar Grove, IL.). Collaborates with the Giant Steps Day Schools Facilities Team. Duties and Responsibilities Performs general, routine custodial duties, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning the kitchen, and restocking paper and soap supplies.Scrubs, sanitizes and supplies restroom facilities.Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and suppliesCleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansersEmpties trash receptacles, dispose of trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.Shampoos or steam-cleans carpet and rugsManages inventory of cleaning supplies.Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, including submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels; for positions within on-campus residence halls, responsible for reporting concerns related to on-campus residents.Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.Assists in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and may answer basic questions. May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Notifies administrator regarding the need for repairs or additions to building’s operating system Distinguishing Characteristics Position requires a) use of power equipment to buff and restore floors and shampoo carpets; b) regular and routine dusting, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash, and cleaning restrooms; and c) routine maintenance of custodial equipment. Minimum Job Requirements A high school diploma or equivalent is required. One or more years of experience required (experience requirement may vary) Self-starter/motivate Ability to work with minimal supervision. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Ability to understand verbal instructions. Ability to understand and follow safety procedures Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Ability to understand written and verbal communications Salary & Hours Salary is commensurate with the level of experience—with the opportunity for additional hours during the year.Works 5 days a week – 20-hour workweek Conditions of Employment A pre-employment physical, drug screening, and criminal background checkPossesses appropriate professional credentials Working Conditions and Physical Effort Work is typically performed indoors within the school facility; however, some outdoor property duties are required.Moderate physical movement is required for the job.Moderate exposure to physical risk is anticipated.The noise level in this work environment varies from quiet to very loud.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continually required to stand, walk, sit, run, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, balance, crouch, talk, hear, smell, and see. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds.
