We also welcome: Since July 2021, we have hired 12 new team members and promoted 10 team members. The City moved quickly to fill vacant positions by hiring people on an interim basis. Many of those hired on an interim basis have since been selected for permanent positions. eComments, or comments on items published on the agenda, can be submitted via SpeakUp Hermosa! or by emailing [email protected] by 3 p.m. on the day of the Council meeting. All comments submitted by the deadline will be uploaded to the agenda packet before the Council meeting. Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Project 682: Parking Lot D Improvements was selected to receive $423,950 in Safe, Clean Water grant funding. This project will completely rehabilitate Parking Lot D, located at Manhattan Avenue and 14th Streets to include storm water infiltration, electric vehicle charging and drought-tolerant vegetation. The project is estimated to be completed in late 2023. To maintain bicycle safety citywide, Hermosa Beach Police Officers are conducting regular enforcement on The Strand and on public roadways. Here are reminders about riding specifically on The Strand: We encourage e-bike riders to ride on the street instead of the Strand. If you're not ready, check out Metro Bicycle Education Safety Training (BEST), which is offered at varying skill levels to get you comfortable with riding in an urban environment. Last week, we celebrated both Municipal Clerk's Week and Public Service Recognition Week. Wednesday marked the start of National Police Week. National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. Public Works Appreciation Week will be from May 15th to May 21st. This year's theme is Ready and Resilient. We recognized the contributions of all City staff at our All-Hands meeting last Thursday, May 5, with special appearances from Mayor Mike Detoy; Parks and Recreation Commission Chair Barbara Ellman and Vice Chair Traci Horowitz; Public Works Commissioners Janice Brittain, Kathy Dunbabin, and David Grethen. We are accepting nominations for 2023 Surfer Walk of Fame Inductees through September 15, 2022. For Mental Health Awareness Month, the mayors of the Beach Cities have partnered with Beach Cities Health District on the Kindness Counts campaign.
