Description
Tofu is a two-year-old purebred shih tzu. He is a very unique small dog with quite the complicated personality. Please read the entire post before inquiring. We are very sad to have to rehome him, and will be looking for the right family or person who can give him what he needs. There will be a small rehoming fee to ensure he goes to a good home, and we will need to ask many questions and have at least one meet up prior to his rehoming. His “quirks” are listed below. The most important thing to know about Tofu is who he shouldn’t be homed with. Any children under 13 should not interact with Tofu, he does very poorly with young children. He is quite selective about who he likes, and his preference can seem random at times. Usually how he is first introduced to the person makes a huge difference and when meeting him for the first time we will do everything we can to help the introduction go smoothly. Should he like the person, he will be excited, want affection, and want to either sit or sleep by them. Should he dislike the person, he will hide, growl, and pretend to snap if touched (he hasn’t made contact, but will certainly try to intimidate). The new addition to our family is a young child which is our reason for rehoming. There is pretty much no middle ground, unfortunately. Young children and very tall men generally receive the latter greeting, he prefers the company of calm women. He must not be placed with any other dogs or small animals (that are not caged). We have two other dogs (both are much larger), and although he doesn’t fight them, he is possessive of people he likes, toys, food, and his personal space when sleeping (we have not seen possessive behavior shown towards humans however). He gets jealous quickly, and has attempted to either start fights or engage in rough, aggressive disrespectful play that offends other dogs. He does well on a leash unless he sees other dogs. While I understand this does seem like a lot, he does have a lot of positives. We have seen him meet someone for the first time (in the right way) and love them immediately. For these people, he doesn’t show any signs of aggression, possessive behaviors, or fear. He will be very affectionate and tends to follow people around and sleep where they stop. When he decides he likes someone, he really likes them. It is very easy to tell how he feels about people, and he will make it clear quickly. We would recommend either and individual or couple with a calm patient attitude without other uncaged pets (such as cats or dogs). A house with a lot going on or a lot of family wouldn’t probably be suited to him. He likes to be active, but a yard is not required as he isn’t terrible on walks or too hyper in the house. His recall is nonexistent outside, but I feel like it could improve as it is great indoors. He is crate trained and potty trained. If you both get off on the right foot, he's a really great companion. Please reach out if you have any other questions and are interested in Tofu. Rehoming fee applies. Please no calls, only texts/emails. Thanks!
