Description

Hello, my name is Ari and I’m an artist trained at the National Center for Contemporary Art (Villa Arson) in the south of France. I offer creative expression classes for all ages that will softly introduce you to the joys of creating art. My method begins with meditative watercolor techniques in order to establish a relationship with the act of painting itself. I began painting this way and found that even in my earliest paintings, I recognized certain visual forms that emerged from my psyche, despite having focused purely on the act of mixing colors on the page. Making art should not be an intimidating act; I believe it should be accessible to all. Oftentimes our performance-based culture tells us that we cannot paint because we cannot draw figurative forms in a “realistic” way. I think this attitude is a limiting belief — anyone can paint, with any medium — be it sand, snow, or the sauce left on your dinner plate. Of course, if you desire to paint more traditional figurative forms, we can incorporate that into the course. But this course is different from other art courses in that it will help you create your own artistic universe. The more you create art, the more the act of creating will become intuitive to you. Through our classes together, I will help you: - Experiment with different mediums and identify which medium is best suited for you for different art projects - Identify forms, strokes, patterns, and themes that are already within you and are calling to be released - Think outside of the box through unique painting/drawing/creation exercises - Improve your sense of proportion, composition, and ability to depict realistic figures through traditional drawing exercises - Learn basic color theory and apply unique color palettes to your creations - Play with strokes and movement for creative release in painting/your preferred medium We will begin experimenting with different forms based on the student’s preference. Examples include working with a word or multiple words written on a page, with natural elements collected outside, with crayons, scissors, markers, acrylic, oil paint, pastels, toothbrushes, repurposed objects and even dance, performance, video and digital art. Anything is possible, depending on your interest. I will show you plenty of open doors for you to walk through. Your sole cost beyond the price of the class will be $7 for a basic watercolor palette, watercolor pencils and brushes, which I have selected beforehand in order to keep introductory costs low while not compromising on the quality of the student’s piece. I will provide the rest of the materials for class and will recommend affordable and quality products I have tried and tested myself for art creation outside of class. Thank you for your interest in my class and I look forward to creating with you!
