MARY MCLEOD BETHUNE STATUARY HALL INSTALLATION WATCH PARTY On Wednesday, July 13, the statue depicting Bethune-Cookman University’s beloved foundress, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, will officially be unveiled in the U.S. Capitol’s Statuary Hall. One of two sculptures representing the State of Florida, the sculpture will stand among other works of art symbolizing each of the 50 United States in one of our country’s most popular destinations. As people from our nation gather in Washington, D.C. to witness this historic moment, we will be hosting the Mary McLeod Bethune Statuary Hall Installation Watch Party, a fundraising event benefitting B-CU students, at 10:30 a.m. at the Mary McLeod Bethune Performing Arts Center, 698 W International Speedway Blvd, Daytona Beach. Throughout the event, our focus will center on the legacy of Dr. Bethune, the daughter of former slaves, who rose above her circumstances, and not only founded our great University with five little girls, $1.50 in her pocket and a fierce faith in God, but also became a pioneering civil rights activist, a women’s advocate, an entrepreneur, a writer, businesswoman, educational advisor to five U.S. Presidents, and more.We need your support in sustaining her legacy. The event is free and open to all who want to celebrate this historic occasion. Registration is required.
