RENTON, WA — Candidate filing week began Monday in Washington, opening up the door for those seeking regional, statewide and federal offices to get their paperwork in to appear on August primary ballots. This year, one of Washington's senators and four of its congressional representatives are up for election, along with the Secretary of State and a slew of legislative races on the state level. King County will also pick a new prosecuting attorney, following Dan Satterberg's decision to not seek reelection after nearly 15 years at the helm. As of Monday morning, two candidates had filed to run for the office: Satterberg's chief of staff Leesa Manion, and Federal Way Mayor Jim Farrell. Voters will also cast ballots for judges in several court systems. Candidates are encouraged to file online, which is possible around the clock until the filing window closes at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 20. Those who require additional assistance can visit King County Elections' Renton headquarters or get help by phone at 206-296-1565. Mailed filings must be at the Renton headquarters by Friday at 4:30 p.m. Candidates who wish to withdraw their name from consideration must do so by the following Monday. For voters, King County Elections will update the official list of candidates seeking office on its website each day at noon and 6 p.m. Ballots are due to be mailed to registered voters on July 13.
