SILVER SPRING, MD — The Long Branch Community Recreation and Senior Center is reopening in its original capacity after serving as a shelter for much of the pandemic, Montgomery County said in a news release. There will be sports clinics, cooking classes, fitness, martial arts and futsal for all ages, along with a special week of senior activities that include fitness and wellness classes like yoga, pickleball, table tennis, and Tai chi in June. The center reopened Monday and will have a grand opening Saturday with dancing, music, food, inflatables, face painting and games. "The reopening of the Long Branch Community Recreation and Senior Center makes it possible for the center to once again be a place for young people, families, and older adults to spend their leisure time," said Montgomery County Recreation Director Robin Riley in a news release. "We have been working behind the scenes, with the Department of General Services, to have a refreshed facility that is beautifully landscaped with high-quality recreation programming for everyone." The Rec Center will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the Senior Center will have regular hours of Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The county said the center was repainted, floors were restored, and the grounds were landscaped before the reopening.
