Brookfield Residents To Vote On $77.7M Budget Tuesday

BROOKFIELD, CT — In a referendum Tuesday, Brookfield residents will vote on the town and Board of Education budgets covering fiscal year 2022-23. The $48.7 million spending plan for the BOE represents a 4.14 percent increase over the current budget. The requested increase is driven mainly by enrollment and new salaries, including a required bilingual teacher at $90,600. The town is proposing a municipal spending plan of $20.7 million, plus another $6.3 million in debt service and $2.1 million in capital expenditures. The combined $77.7 million budget, a 3.87 percent increase over the current spending plan, would increase Brookfield's mill rate to 25.88, or 3.15 percent. A sample ballot may be found online here. Polls will be open between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Due to construction at Huckleberry Hill Elementary School, District 1 voters will cast their vote at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church Parish Hall, 138 Candlewood Lake Road.
