DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — The DuPage County Sheriff's Office will be on the lookout for seatbelt violations during a "Click It or Ticket" campaign that kicked off May 13. The campaign will include public education and increased patrols. "Seat belts have proven to be one of the best ways to save your life in a crash," officespokesperson Justin Kmitch said in a news release. Kmitch added, "Unfortunately, many still don't buckle up. Worse yet, not wearing a seat belt is a habit that can be passed on to younger generations who follow the example set by their elders." The campaign will run through May 31, which is Memorial Day weekend. According to the news release from DuPage County Sheriff's Office, the risk of being fatally hurt in a crash goes down by 45 percent if you're wearing a seatbelt. The May seatbelt crackdown is part of a statewide campaign that is funded in part by federal safety funds from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
