Geneva Viking Ship Reopens For Summer Visits This Weekend

GENEVA, IL — Geneva's Viking ship, situated in Good Templar Park, will once again reopen to visitors for tours starting May 21. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., visitors will have the option to take a docent-guided tour or opt to go on a self-guided outing of The Viking, a life-size replica of a ship that sailed from Bergen, Norway to the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. "Our volunteer docents will tell you all about this 'one of a kind' ship," reads the event's description. "You'll learn of Viking's construction, journey, and significance. You may even meet a Viking!" The ship is maintained by Friends of the Viking Ship, a St. Charles-based nonprofit that works on the ship's preservation, public display and permanent home, according to a news release. On Saturday, docent-led tours will start approximately every 15 minutes, with the last one departing at 3:15 p.m. Admission to see the ship, at 528 East Side Drive in Geneva, costs $7 for adults and $4 for kids ages 13 to 17. Kids 12 and younger can enter for free. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
