DOUGLASVILLE, GA — The longtime head of Douglas County's 911 operation has assumed a leadership position with the Georgia Emergency Communications Authority (GECA). Greg Whitaker started Monday as executive director for the Georgia Emergency Communications Authority. Created in 2018, the authority is dedicated to improving 911 and emergency communications throughout the state. The authority is part of the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency. (GEMA/HS). Whitaker brings with him 28 years of experience as Douglas County E-911 director. Before that, he worked with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office for 10 years. In addition, Whitaker was president of the Georgia 911 Directors Association from 2008 through 2018. "We are delighted to have Greg join GEMA/HS and GECA," GEMA/HS Director Chris Stallings said in a statement Thursday. "With his immeasurable amount of experience, there is no doubt that he will pave the way for our state to continue being the trailblazer for 911 and emergency communications."
